Intro: Today we begin a new sermon series “Walking with Jesus every day” and it was supposed to be in 3D...
As we were going to bring some dramas to life for you, but obviously we can not do that for you at this time.
I don’t know about you, but I’m missing the fact of being able to go watch a movie, and fill up my popcorn bucket.
Throughout this week, and we actually started on last Friday, where we read . We see Jesus arrive into Bethany and we get Mary anointing Him with her hair. This is the prelude into Holy week.
And so we are coming together in a zoom meeting chat room all week long at 7pm to walk with Jesus every day leading up into Easter Sunday.
So if you would like to join in on that, please feel free to download zoom on whatever device you have and participate with us.
This is not a preaching, this is just a Bible reading and a conversation we are doing together.
Let us know if you don’t know how to log on, its just a great way to see everyone, we truly MISS you, and we want to stay CONNECTED!!!
With today being Palm Sunday we are going to look at the events known as the triumphal entry.
If we look at in the old Testament we actually see that it is prophecy fulfilled.
Zechariah 9:9 ESV
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
Ps
Lets look at these events in the book of Mark...
Sermon Title:
#326 "Triumphal Entry 20"
Mark 11:1 ESV
Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples
Mark 11:2 ESV
and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it.
First lets think about this for a second...
Jesus is sending a couple of the disciples ahead, to bring back a colt, a donkey.
I love how scripture lets us know that it had never been ridden before.
How many of us have ever brought something from the store brand new???
I have to imagine the owners on how they would feel about this.
If you and I bought something brand new, it is most likely that we would want to be the first to wear it, or first to use it.
Mark 11:3 ESV
If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’ ”
Now this changes everything, the owners of the donkey are not just letting anyone use it, but the Lord.
Mark 11:1
It’s not a friend, it’s not a neighbor, it’s not a family member...
It’s the Lord, it’s Jesus Christ, it’s the one who they’ve been hearing about, who’s been going around preaching the gospel and performing miracles.
And this couple will get to play a role in the triumphal entry, by allowing Jesus to use a possession, that they have yet to use.
Mark 11:4 ESV
And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it.
Mark 11:5 ESV
And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?”
Jesus not only gave the disciples the task, but also gave the disciples the words to speak, if anyone should ask.
I love that, it shows me that God is aware of all, even before it even happens.
Thats why, with what we are going through today with Covid-19, we must stay positive and encouraged because this comes to no surprise to the creator of the universe.
So they asked why are you taking this donkey...
Mark 11:6 ESV
And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go.
Man what an honor it would have been to allow Jesus to ride in on your donkey, to be apart of history.
Now the word doesn't tell us the name of the owners, they are merely a side note on the journey of Jesus Christ.
Yet how honored and excited they must have felt that Jesus decided to use their donkey.
Imagine if they would have said you cant take this donkey...
It’s never been ridden before, we need to train it first, it’s not ready.
They would have missed out on being a blessing to Jesus and being used by Jesus.
How many of us, miss our opportunities to be a blessing because we feel were not ready to allow God to use us.
Were not ready to do what He’s called us to do.
I can imagine the couple humbly releasing their donkey for the service of the Lord.
Mark 11:7 ESV
And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it.
Mark 11:8 ESV
And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields.
What a site that must have been to see...
People throwing their cloaks on the road as Jesus came by, to worship Him.
Now I don’t know about you, but my cloak is not touching the floor.
dirt on the floor, if Jesus goes over the cloak with the donkey, Ive got donkey toes on my cloak, and if the donkey accidently gets excited and nervous because theres so many people around and releases droppings unto some of the cloaks.
Im trying to paint you a picture here, because none of this mattered, they just wanted to be in the moment, taking in the presence of the almighty God.
Utilizing whatever they had to worship God.
Mark 11:8 ESV
And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields.
Mark 11:9 ESV
And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
Mark 11:10 ESV
Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!”
Mark 11:11 ESV
And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.
They praise Jesus as He enters the city, they recognize Him as king, as He enters on a colt.
But these same people, would be the ones to turn their back on Him a few days later.
These same people that shouted Hosanna will soon be shouting crucify Him.
We will continue tomorrow @ 7 as we continue to Walk with Jesus every day, leading to Easter Sunday.
Today I want to leave you with this, would you be like that couple and say; “Jesus Here, utilize what I have.”
Would you be like those on the side of the road, laying down your possessions your cloaks and worshiping Christ with everything you have?
If you don’t know how to answer those questions today, allow me to help you.
